San Diego saltwater fly fishing offers a very unique trip for an exotic species that people fish a lifetime to catch. The bonefish that live and thrive here in the San Diego bay are known as the Cortez bonefish that has established a healthy population.
We fish 5-8wt rods with an intermediate sinking line, 6-8ft fluorocarbon leaders and shrimp imitation fly patterns.
Light weight spinning outfits with 20# braid and a 5-8ft top shot of 6-8 pound fluorocarbon leader. We fish live ghost shrimp on a Carolina rig with 1/8lb-1/4lb weight.
ALL BONE FISH IS STRICTLY CATCH AND RELEASE
Half day (4-5 hours)- $350.00
Full day (8-9 hours)- $475.00
WHAT TO EXPECT
Once you have a day picked out, here are some things to expect when spending a day
on the water us:
Although this is San Diego and we do have a lot of sunshine, you will also want to be pre-paired for some cooler weather as well. The boats we run do not have sunshade, due to limiting fly casting ability, so you will want to stay hydrated and covered up with lots of sunscreen. The boat ride can be a little wet. We recommend bringing any rain gear you may have.
Ocean conditions can be predicted pretty accurately by forecast here in the San Diego waters, however, you do want to be prepared for the unseen. Rough waters, fog, drizzle and even a lot of sunshine. Wind plays a big factor when under way and sitting in a slick. It can make for a pretty rocky day while on the water.
We do not provide lunches and leave that up to you. You do not want us guessing at what you like to eat, "Sardines and anchovies for everyone!!!" We do provide a cooler with ice for your lunch and beverages. You will also want to consider some snacks for throughout the day. When fighting with Mako, you will need some fuel!
You will be responsible for providing a California fishing license for each person fishing.
You can purchase a day license online here
